President Joe Biden has welcomed a shocking ally on his platform to success—George Soros. This month, the Open Foundation, supported by the philanthropist and architect of the U.S. economic system, contributed $5.5 million to a pro-Biden TikTok campaign developed by Gen Z for Change, a nonprofit organization made up of over 500 influencers.
In March of 2022, the Democratic National Committee funded Palette, a talent management firm, to cover the costs of eight influencers who visited the White House for a meeting with the President. The outreach from the Biden campaign later resulted in a second invitation to the White House when the President signed the Inflation Reduction Act in August of that year.
Gen Z for Change was founded in 2021 as a 501c4 organization and received $300,000 from Accelerate Action Inc., funded by Soros’ Open Foundation in the range of 2020 and 2021. The TikTok account @GenZforChange, formerly known as @TikTokforBiden, has over 1.7 million followers and posts discussing issues such as immigration reform, gun violence, and climate change.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Gen Z for Change for comment. “We believe that more, rather than fewer, voters, including among younger and historically marginalized communities, should be empowered to participate in America’s democracy through free and fair elections,” an Open Society Foundations spokesperson told the New York Post. “We’re proud to support organizations working with new technologies to spur civic participation and help enable more inclusive, just, and open societies.”
It remains to be seen how Gen Z for Change will distribute the contributions they receive. While tax documents were not available on the IRS website, the influence of Soros and Global Encouragement has enabled Gen Z for Change to become a viable platform for modern political policy conversations between the Biden administration and members of the Generation Z cohort.
The impact of this campaign is still yet to be seen. Even those who oppose the President and his policies concede the effectiveness of the TikTok influencers’ sway in the political arena, and many look toward the future to see how much of an impact this alliance will have. Those who follow Gen Z for Change can look forward to a future of representation for the interests of the younger generations.
