Back in 2024, few political family feuds played out as publicly as the one involving Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and several members of the Kennedy family. While disagreements over politics are nothing new, the intensity of the criticism directed at RFK Jr. after his presidential campaign and subsequent endorsement of Donald Trump stood out even by modern political standards.
One of the most memorable moments came during a CNN interview in August 2024 when Kerry Kennedy sharply condemned her brother's decision to back Trump. Her comments went far beyond ordinary political disagreement. She described herself as “outraged and disgusted” by what she called his embrace of Trump and publicly distanced herself from him, accusing him of betraying their father’s legacy.

At the time, RFK Jr. declined to engage in a public war of words. Instead, he responded by emphasizing family bonds despite political differences. He noted that the Kennedy family had long encouraged vigorous debate while still maintaining affection and respect for one another. Whether people agreed with his political decisions or not, his response contrasted sharply with the rhetoric being directed at him.
Now, nearly two years later, the conflict appears far from over.
Kerry Kennedy recently appeared on CNN and was asked about her brother’s longstanding interest in nature and wildlife. The question followed a viral video from late May showing RFK Jr. handling black racer snakes on the patio of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz. Rather than simply discussing his appreciation for the outdoors, Kerry Kennedy recounted a story from decades ago in which she alleged that her brother held a snake in one hand and his infant son in the other before throwing the snake into a swimming pool occupied by children.
The story quickly drew attention, not because it related to current policy debates, but because it was presented in the context of questioning RFK Jr.’s fitness to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Trump administration.

Once again, RFK Jr. chose not to launch a public counterattack. He maintained the same approach he has largely followed throughout the dispute. However, he did add a pointed observation about what many Trump supporters describe as “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” suggesting that political animosity remains the driving force behind much of the criticism directed at him.
Political disagreements within families can become deeply personal. History is full of examples of relatives who have cut ties over elections, ideologies, and public controversies. Yet the Kennedy family’s conflict has unfolded on a national stage, with interviews, statements, and media appearances turning private disagreements into public spectacles.
What continues to strike many observers is not simply that the family disagrees with RFK Jr.’s politics. It is the degree of hostility that has accompanied those disagreements. For critics, his endorsement of Trump represented a break from the family’s traditional political identity. For supporters, the reaction from some relatives has appeared less like principled disagreement and more like an effort to publicly ostracize a family member for stepping outside ideological boundaries.
