Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the First Lady of Florida, Casey DeSantis, have been making waves in the political arena, both for his presidential campaign and her brave fight against breast cancer.

On Thursday, the couple opened up to Fox News about her battle with cancer, the strength of her marriage, and why Ron DeSantis is the right person to be the next President of the United States.

Casey broke down in tears as she described the difficulty of keeping her diagnosis from her three young children and how her husband supported her through her treatment.

Casey had her first diagnosis of breast cancer in October 2021. She underwent six rounds of chemotherapy, six weeks of radiation, and three surgeries, and had to tell her children she'd hurt her arm instead of the real reason for the treatment.

"As a matter of fact, I went through six rounds of chemotherapy, six weeks of radiation, and three surgeries. I couldn't use my left arm. I told them I hurt my arm because I didn't want to tell them," she admitted.

But it was her husband's love and support that saw her through.

Ron DeSantis told Fox News that the couple had been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support since they had announced her cancer diagnosis.

It wasn't until January 2022 that Ron could announce that Casey had beaten the cancer. To show her appreciation for all who had helped them throughout the hard times they'd faced, Casey made a campaign ad about her battle.

The commercial heard and seen around the state was a heartfelt story of hope and it propelled Ron to a second term in the Grand Floridian Governor's Mansion.

The couple also talked about how they met. Ron had been practicing golf at the driving range at the University of Northern Florida when Casey had come round looking for some extra balls. He had thought she was checking him out and they started talking, leading to a promising future.

And in the interview on Thursday, the two revealed that their children are getting into golf - in a nod to their parents - and that the entire family is touring the country as part of Ron's presidential campaign.

Casey has also been a strong advocate of her husband's campaign, blasting back against accusations of her being a “Walmart Melania” and “America's Karen”. In response, she announced that she had launched 'Mamas for DeSantis' to support her husband's campaign for president.

"You just need to tell it from the heart, I felt the need to do that, I was so tired of the hits he was taking, these false accusations about his character," she said.

She also made a passionate argument for why her husband was the best person for the job.

"He's the love of my life, the father of my six, five, and three-year-old, and the fighter we need to turn this around. I make the assumption people know who he is. He was a JAG officer and deployed to Iraq with seal team one for a troop surge on the ground that got the star for meritorious service. He saw 9/11 and wanted to give back to the country that had given him so much. He served in the United States military. It says a lot about who he is and how he views the country," she said.

The couple's interview on Thursday served as a powerful reminder of their strength in the face of adversity and their passion to move America forward.
