The plan was to keep the roads open for everyone. That was the plan.
Instead, the White House just slammed the brakes on illegal immigrant truckers to make room for American veterans. President Trump unveiled a bold new move on Thursday, July 30, 2026, to fix a dangerous problem on our highways.
This is the Freedom Haulers Initiative, and it changes everything for military vets. According to reports, the program gives veterans priority access to trucking jobs. It also expands their ability to get commercial driver's licenses faster than ever before.
Under the new rules, the Department of Transportation extends the waiver period for veterans from 12 months to 24 months. Fox News Politics reports that qualified veterans can now skip the road-skills test if they drove heavy vehicles in the military. Some states even let them skip the written knowledge test.
For vets who never drove a big rig, the government offers fast training. Officials say this training can be finished in just a few weeks. A new recruitment drive will use digital ads, radio spots, and a special website to connect these men and women with good-paying jobs.

This initiative follows a massive cleanup of the nation's highways. The New York Post notes that over 24,000 commercial driver's licenses were removed from the road as part of a strict crackdown. The goal is to stop dangerous driving by those not entitled to be behind the wheel.
President Trump did not hold back on his reasons for the change. Reporters were informed by him that state-level radical left maniacs granted commercial driver's licenses to individuals not entitled to possess them. He pointed out that many of these drivers cannot speak English or read basic road signs.
The statistics are grim. Data from the Department of Transportation indicates that 17 fatal crashes involving illegal immigrant commercial vehicle drivers caused at least 30 deaths in 2025. The President called these deaths "many, many preventable deaths" caused by reckless driving.
He stated clearly, "We've got to stop it. It's dangerous what's happening. The administration claims America's roads are being terrorized by unqualified illegal aliens who dangerously drive big rigs. Now, 34 states are joining the Even Exchange Program to replace these drivers with proud American veterans.
