In what may be the most unexpected diplomatic headline of the week, President Donald Trump offered some humor-tinged “marital advice” to French President Emmanuel Macron following a now-viral video in which Macron’s wife, Brigitte, appeared to shove him in the face as the two prepared to exit a plane in Vietnam.
The footage, which caught fire across social media platforms earlier this week, shows a brief but unmistakable gesture from Brigitte Macron that sent commentators and viewers into a flurry of speculation. Macron, ever the polished politician, tried to play it off—smiling, waving, and quickly shifting into diplomatic mode as cameras rolled.
“This week there was a video on board a plane that showed the First Lady of France slapping her husband, Emmanuel Macron. Do you have any world leader to world leader marital advice?”

When asked during a Friday press conference by Fox News' Peter Doocy if he had any “world leader to world leader marital advice,” Trump didn’t miss a beat.
“Make sure the door remains closed,” he quipped, drawing chuckles from the room before adding, “That was… not good.”
Elon Musk, asked in the Oval why he has a bruise near his eye, jokes, "Well I wasn't anywhere near France."
Then says it's from rough housing with his son, X.

He quickly followed with reassurances. “I spoke to [Macron], he’s fine, they’re fine, they’re two really good people, I know them very well,” Trump said. “I don’t know what that was all about, but I know them very well, and they’re fine.”
It was classic Trump—quick-witted, slightly irreverent, and perfectly on brand.

The moment didn’t end there. Elon Musk, present alongside Trump at the conference, was asked about a visible bruise above his eye. Without missing a beat, he leaned into the news cycle with his own quip: “Well, I wasn’t anywhere near France.”
Musk then clarified the injury was from playful roughhousing with his son, X. However, the humor was lost on at least one reporter, who awkwardly asked Musk to explain the joke.
