Trump Comments On CNN Headline, Sparks Investigation

The sequence of events unfolded quickly, beginning with a single CNN live blog update that carried a striking claim: Iran’s Supreme National Security Council allegedly declared a “great victory” and asserted that the United States had been forced into accepting a 10-point plan during ceasefire negotiations tied to the Strait of Hormuz. Within minutes, President Donald Trump responded publicly, rejecting the report in blunt terms and accusing CNN of amplifying a fraudulent statement.

Trump’s response centered on the origin of the claim. He argued that the statement cited by CNN did not come from a credible or verified Iranian government release, but instead traced back to what he described as a low-credibility website based in Nigeria. In his Truth Social post, he labeled the report a “FRAUD,” insisting that CNN knowingly elevated unreliable material into a headline. He further demanded that the network retract the report and issue a formal apology, while indicating that authorities are reviewing whether any laws were broken in the dissemination of the statement.

The CNN update in question attributed the language directly to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, including a declaration that Iran had delivered a “crushing defeat” to its adversary and remained prepared to respond militarily. The report noted that CNN had reached out to U.S. officials for comment, but it did not include immediate rebuttal or verification from American sources at the time of publication.

At the same time, a separate, verifiable statement from Iranian officials outlined a more procedural development: acceptance of a two-week ceasefire, a temporary reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and plans for continued negotiations with the United States in Islamabad. The coexistence of these two narratives—one presenting a decisive victory, the other outlining structured diplomatic steps—raises the possibility that multiple messages were circulated, potentially aimed at different audiences.

Trump’s criticism focused less on Iran’s messaging strategy and more on the role of the media in relaying it. His remarks suggest that the core issue, from his perspective, is whether CNN sufficiently vetted the origin and authenticity of the more aggressive claim before publication.

Parallel to this dispute, Trump also addressed a separate national security concern involving a leaked report about a downed U.S. F-15 fighter jet. According to his statement, details about a second crew member—reportedly wounded and stranded—were disclosed prematurely by media outlets after first appearing on Israeli television. He described the leak as dangerous, arguing that it created a race between U.S. forces and hostile actors to reach the injured servicemember.
