President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are gathering thousands of Republicans in Dallas this week for the first-ever midterm convention. The event runs Wednesday and Thursday at the American Airlines Center, aiming to energize voters before the November election.
More than 20,000 people are expected to attend the two-day event, according to reports. President Trump will speak both nights, delivering the keynote address on Wednesday. Vice President JD Vance will headline the second night. Danielle Alvarez, a senior advisor at the RNC, called Trump "ratings gold" in a statement to The New York Post.
Republicans view this as a unique chance to show their record. House Speaker Mike Johnson told Fox News Digital that the election is different now. Because we now face a serious competition against communism, this midterm differs from all others. Johnson stated that this will mobilize voters from coast to coast. He plans to highlight that the current Democratic Party is not the same as in the past.
The convention faces stiff competition from the NFL season opener. The New England Patriots play the Seattle Seahawks on NBC Wednesday, while the San Francisco 49ers face the Los Angeles Rams on Netflix Thursday. Major networks like ABC, NBC, and CBS have not confirmed their coverage plans. C-SPAN will air wall-to-wall coverage, and Fox News will broadcast live from Dallas.
Sean Hannity's show will air for two hours each evening from the site. A source told The Washington Examiner that CBS has reporters on the ground but no major broadcast plans. The RNC remains confident despite the schedule clash. Natalie Baldassarre, an RNC spokesperson, told The Post that Trump is "one of the greatest showmen in history."
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan outlined the path to victory for the GOP. Speaking to Breitbart News, Jordan said the party must remind voters of their achievements. He noted they cut taxes, secured the border, and added school choice to the tax code. Jordan admitted that costs are still too high but blamed the Biden administration for the rise.
He warned that a Democratic Congress would weaponize government against Republicans. Jordan said. He argued that Democrats would dig into the Vice President and Secretary Rubio just for political reasons. Jordan believes voters will choose common-sense solutions over what he calls "socialist lunacy."
The convention concludes Thursday night with a focus on blocking the left's agenda. Rep. Jim Jordan told Breitbart that Republicans can defy history and win. "We have a chance to defy history and win the midterms," he said. The party hopes this message will resonate as voters head to the polls in November.
