Trump Admin Demands Answers From New York Hospital Over Visa Hires

Something happened in New York that caught the eye of the Trump administration. A viral claim surfaced stating that a hospital hired 82 resident doctors. Of those 82 doctors, 80 were foreign workers on H-1B or J-1 visas. Only two spots went to American applicants. That is 98 percent of the slots going to visa workers.

Anthony D’Esposito, the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Labor, responded without delay. On Sunday, he took to X to demand a breakdown from Rochester Regional Health. He wants to know exactly how the hiring happened. He asked the hospital to show the numbers. He added that President Trump’s executive order puts visa abuse under the microscope.


The Daily Wire reported on the claim but noted it has not been independently verified yet. However, the hospital system data points to a heavy reliance on foreign workers. According to reports, which compiles Department of Labor data, Rochester General Hospital filed 95 H-1B applications in 2025. They filed another 39 in 2026.

Since 2016, the database records 421 H-1B filings that encompass 634 positions. These include roles like “Medical Resident Physician” and “Medical Fellow Physician.” The American Medical Association’s FREIDA database lists 72 residents in the Internal Medicine program. It also lists J-1 visa sponsorship for international physicians.


The reliance goes beyond doctors. In January, WXXI reported that roughly 150 international nurses moved to Rochester through the hospital's program. Another 80 were waiting for visas. Officials called this recruitment a key part of their workforce strategy.

D’Esposito made it clear that the government will not look the other way. He stated that if the system were manipulated, we would work with the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, led by Vice President JD Vance, to expose it. He wants to ensure the system works for Americans first.


Critics of the current system have long argued that foreign labor hurts local doctors. An observer remarked that “our medical system is built structurally to encourage foreign labor while harming Americans. Another remarked that Americans are frequently prevented from entering the medical field by our obsolete residency match program, which prioritizes foreign graduates.


There are calls to fix the issue without stopping progress. As one individual expressed, “Methods exist to achieve this without reversing the advancements established by Trump’s own administration in 2019. The administration is now asking for the full picture from Rochester Regional Health. The hospital has not yet provided a full breakdown of its residency classes.

The demand for answers is clear. The inspector general wants to see the data. The White House task force is ready to act if fraud is found. The question remains whether the hospital will open its books. The administration is demanding to know if American applicants got a fair shot.
