Outlet Issues Editors Note After Shooting Of Charlie Kirk

WASHINGTON, DC -- 12/14/17 -- Charlie Kirk is the founder of Turning Point USA, which advocates for conservative ideas on college and high school campuses.…by André Chung #_AC17307

The irony is so thick, it practically demands its own headline. A site literally named Jezebel—a title steeped in biblical infamy, synonymous with idolatry, corruption, and persecution of prophets—boasted just days ago about commissioning “Etsy witches” to hex Charlie Kirk. Their justification? His voice was simply too irritating. And today, that voice has been violently and permanently silenced.

Charlie Kirk, the prominent conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while speaking to students in Utah. His death has stunned supporters, sparked debates across ideological lines, and ignited calls for national reflection. But the context surrounding this tragedy is what makes it all the more disturbing. Because only two days prior, Jezebel published a shockingly flippant piece about how they “paid witches” to curse him — not metaphorically, not in jest, but literally. They went spell-shopping on Etsy, laughed about it, and posted photos of his face burning in flames.

This wasn’t satire. It was ideological theater dressed up as dark arts. The Jezebel author deliberated on the ethics of casting a curse—not on a criminal, not on a warmonger, but on a man whose political beliefs they despised. In their own words: “Is it unethical to let him keep talking? Yes.” And thus, the curse was cast.

To their credit—or perhaps to cover themselves legally—Jezebel editors quickly pinned a disclaimer to the top of the article after the shooting: “We condemn the violence… we do not encourage or excuse political violence.” But the damage was done. You can’t write a piece giddily fantasizing about silencing someone’s voice through spiritual warfare, then claim innocence when that voice is silenced by a bullet.

We are not suggesting the hex killed Charlie Kirk. We are not saying Jezebel pulled the trigger. But what we must say, with clarity and gravity, is that this culture—this normalized glee at the suffering of ideological opponents—is sick. It is a poison infecting our discourse, rotting our shared humanity, and stripping civility from political disagreement.

The real horror of this moment isn’t just the article, or even the act of violence itself—it’s how many people are laughing about it. Online forums and social media are full of ghoulish jokes, heartless mockery, and cheers over the murder of a man whose only weapon was a microphone. This is the chilling reality of our moment. One side calls for prayers. The other calls witches.

Charlie Kirk stood for principles that millions of Americans believe in. He was not perfect—no man is—but he was brave, articulate, and relentless in his advocacy. And now he’s gone.

This is a developing situation and will be updated as more information becomes available.
