The tragic chain of events sparked by a swatting call targeting Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s home in Georgia highlights the deadly consequences of malicious and false threats.
What began as an apparent bomb threat via email escalated into a devastating accident that left an innocent woman dead and a police officer injured, bringing into sharp focus the risks borne by law enforcement and civilians alike in such situations.
Swatting, a dangerous practice involving false emergency reports to provoke an armed police response, is not a new phenomenon for Greene. By her own account, this marks at least the ninth time she has been the target of such acts since her election to Congress.
This particular incident, however, took an especially grim turn when a Rome Police Department officer responding to the bomb threat was involved in a fatal car accident en route to her home.
The Rome Police Department's Assistant Chief of Police received an email containing a bomb threat directed towards me.

According to local reports, the officer’s personal vehicle collided with another on Redmond Road near Walmart, resulting in the death of Tammie Pickelsimer and injuries to the officer. Greene took to social media to express her heartbreak and outrage over the tragedy, emphasizing the profound human toll of politically motivated threats.
“These violent political threats have fatal consequences,” she stated, holding the perpetrator accountable for the devastating loss of life.
The swatting call, traced to a Russian IP address, has mobilized local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, to track down those responsible. Greene’s anger was palpable as she denounced the act as murder and demanded justice for the lives disrupted and lost due to this reckless and malicious act. She also extended her condolences to the family of the victim and the injured officer, thanking the Rome Police Department for their dedication under extraordinary pressure.
The incident underscores a troubling reality for public officials in an era of increasing political polarization. While threats and harassment have become part of the job for many in public life, the ripple effects of such acts extend far beyond their intended targets, often drawing innocent bystanders into harm’s way.
