Fetterman quickly clarified his actual stance. He told the audience he has no reason to leave the Democrats. He stated, "I don't have a reason to," when asked about joining the other side. He believes there is "no path as a Republican" for him right now. He also addressed the threat of expulsion. "If the Democratic Party votes me out or expels me, they're always entitled to do that," he stated. The Senator knows his position is delicate.

He has been friendly with the other side lately. He appeared by video at the Republican National Committee's midterm convention. He introduced Senator Dave McCormick from Pennsylvania. He even vowed to "work with President Trump" at that event. This has led to speculation. Some Republicans have welcomed him with open arms. But he told reporters on Capitol Hill to chill. He asked, "Why can't you guys just wait till the midterms? And if I turn Republican, then I'll be a liar. … Chill."

The mix-up is not the first time he has talked this way. In a May op-ed for the Washington Post, he wrote he would be a "terrible Republican who still votes overwhelmingly with Democrats." He also left open the possibility of switching parties. He said he might leave if Democrats became the "anti-Israel party." These comments have kept the question alive. Is he truly a Democrat? Or is he just waiting for the right moment?
