From 2012 to 2015, Hunter Biden's business partner was 56-year-old Galanis. In 2024, he informed the House Oversight Committee that their venture depended on his family connections. "The entire value add of Hunter Biden to our business was his family name and his access to his father, Vice President Joe Biden," Galanis testified.
Federal court documents show Galanis orchestrated a $60 million fraud scheme through Burnham Securities. The Oglala Sioux Tribe's Wakpamni Lake Community in South Dakota acquired fraudulent municipal bonds from him. For these offenses, Galanis received an 189-month prison sentence in September 2020.

Galanis stated that during the May 4, 2014 call, the elder Biden said to ex-Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and his wife, oligarch Yelena Baturina, "You be good to my boy."
Two months prior, Baturina sent $3.5 million to a company Hunter Biden controlled. Galanis also told GOP investigators that Hunter's primary goal was "to make billions, not just millions" for the family. These statements formed a key part of the investigation into the former first family's financial dealings.
Despite Galanis's detailed testimony, Hunter Biden downplayed his relationship with the former partner. In 2024, he informed the House Oversight Committee that their acquaintance was minimal. "I think that 10 years ago for 30 minutes I was introduced to Jason Galanis, and that's only – the only time I ever recall meeting him," he said.
