House Dem Discusses Trump's ICE Policy During Appearance On Late Night Show

A House Democrat's inflammatory remarks on federal immigration enforcement have sparked widespread backlash and renewed debate over the limits of political rhetoric and its impact on public trust in law enforcement agencies.

Representative Maxwell Frost (D-FL), appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Thursday night, leveled extraordinary accusations against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), accusing agents of “kidnapping” illegal aliens and engaging in “human trafficking.”

His comments came just hours after he held a press conference advocating for mass amnesty and a "speedy path to citizenship" for all undocumented individuals in the United States.

“We have ICE federal agents pulling up, terrorizing our communities, hopping out of unmarked vans, stealing, and yes, kidnapping people,” Frost claimed on air. “And yes, human trafficking them to other nations, other countries around the entire world.”

Frost further accused ICE of denying migrants due process, asserting, “Due process is something that applies to every person in this country, regardless of your status.” He framed his argument in opposition to Republican immigration policy, claiming the GOP wants to strip away what “makes our country actually exceptional.”

The accusations drew immediate condemnation. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) responded, calling Frost’s proposal for universal amnesty “dangerous” and an outright dismissal of the rule of law. “You can’t make this stuff up,” Johnson wrote on social media. “Republicans will never let this dangerous idea happen. We must defend common sense and the rule of law.”

White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Adviser Stephen Miller echoed those concerns. “If the Democrats were to obtain full political control of Washington,” Miller warned, “they would swiftly complete the project of relocating the destitute and developing nations of the world in your communities and then giving them the full rights and privileges of U.S. citizenship.”

Frost’s proposed legislation would require public disclosure of operational data from ICE-affiliated facilities—part of a broader Democratic push to increase oversight and transparency in immigration enforcement. But critics argue that branding federal officers as kidnappers and human traffickers undermines both national security and the credibility of Congress.

The Department of Homeland Security has not responded publicly to Frost’s accusations, but legal experts note that the transportation of deported individuals following due process is not human trafficking under any definition of U.S. or international law.
