Homan Comments On Mayors Statements

Tom Homan, tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to spearhead border security efforts, issued a stark warning to local officials during a recent Fox News interview. Speaking with host Lawrence Jones, Homan called out Democratic mayors and police chiefs who obstruct federal immigration enforcement, making it clear that such interference would not deter federal operations.

“If they don’t want to help us, get the hell out of the way,” Homan stated emphatically. He explained that resistance from local officials only increases federal resource allocation to these areas. “If they give us access to the jail, that’ll mean less agents in their community. For them pushing back and not letting us in the jail, it just means more agents are going to be in the community, so they’re hurting themselves,” he added.

A Warning Rooted in Law
Homan advised local leaders to familiarize themselves with federal statutes, specifically Title 8, United States Code § 1324, which makes it a felony to harbor or conceal illegal immigrants from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). “Read the statute. Don’t cross that line,” he cautioned, hinting at potential legal consequences for obstruction.

Mobilizing Resources
Homan, a former acting director of ICE, expressed optimism about federal and local partnerships under the Trump administration, citing enthusiasm from retired law enforcement and military personnel ready to join border enforcement efforts. “Since I have been announced, I have gotten thousands of soldiers that just recently left the military, they want to join forces,” Homan said. He highlighted the reactivation of retirement paperwork for former agents and officers eager to re-enter the field.

Three Key Objectives
Outlining his strategy, Homan emphasized three priorities for the border security initiative:

1. Securing the Border: Homan stated that proven methods to enforce border security will be reimplemented.
2. Targeted Deportations: Efforts will focus on public safety and national security threats, as well as individuals who have ignored court orders to leave the U.S. after due process.
3. Protecting Vulnerable Children: Homan underscored the urgent need to locate over 300,000 children who were released to sponsors and remain unaccounted for, prioritizing their safety and well-being.

A Renewed Focus on Enforcement
With Homan at the helm, the Trump administration appears poised to take an assertive stance on immigration enforcement. As Homan succinctly put it, “We know how to do this—we’ve done it before.” The approach promises to prioritize security, efficiency, and the rule of law, signaling a new chapter in U.S. border policy.
