Fetterman Has Words For Fellow Dems

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is sounding the alarm on the Democratic Party's shift towards radical socialism. In a scathing critique, Fetterman warns that the party is becoming an "orgy of socialism," a stark departure from its traditional values. This comes after recent primary elections where socialist candidates made significant gains, particularly in New York.

Fetterman's Warning

"I said months ago, I said the Democratic Party is becoming an orgy of socialism. These recent elections vindicate my description," Fetterman declared, according to the New York Post. He pointed to the victories of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) candidates in three New York House primaries as evidence of the party's radicalization.

Fetterman specifically called out DSA candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier, describing her as "deeply disturbed." "Chevalier described America as a f–king disgrace. She posted 'f–l Kamala Harris' and posted that she forgot napkins and wiped her hands on the American flag. She wants to abolish the border, abolish prisons. That is a deeply disturbed individual," he said, per the New York Post.

The Establishment's Concern

Establishment Democrats share Fetterman's concerns. Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, noted that these socialist victories are causing alarm within the party. "The Democratic Socialists of America, who use the Democratic Party as a vehicle to get on to ballots, to get money, to get connections, to win office, and then will try to destroy the Democratic Party," York stated.

Jaime Harrison, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, echoed these sentiments. "I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination. Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign," Harrison urged, per the Washington Examiner.

The Electoral Impact

The rise of socialist candidates within the Democratic Party is not just a matter of internal politics; it has significant electoral implications. While socialists may dominate in deep-blue districts, centrists in swing states could face the brunt of voter backlash if the party moves too far left, according to the New York Post. This trend is part of a broader national movement that has establishment Democrats worried about the party's future and its ability to compete in key battleground states.
