Angie Nixon Wins Florida Senate Primary After Vindman Loses $16 Million

Angie Nixon won the Florida Senate primary on Tuesday night with 55.9 percent of the vote. Alex Vindman lost the race despite raising approximately $16.3 million for his campaign. Nixon spent only about $975,000 to secure her spot against Republican Sen. Ashley Moody. The final count showed Nixon winning 690,172 votes while Vindman received 543,688 votes. This outcome surprised many observers who expected the better-funded candidate to take the lead.

Per RedState, the former National Security Council aide never debated Nixon during the primary season. Vindman spent much of the campaign attacking Sen. Moody instead of focusing on his main rival. The Democratic Socialists of America count Nixon as a member who backs Medicare for All. She also wants a clean-energy transition and a wealth tax on billionaires. Her platform includes cutting U.S. military aid to Israel as well.

Former Republican congressman David Jolly won the Democrat nomination for governor on the same night. He immediately distanced himself from Nixon and her socialist views during an interview. Jolly told viewers, "Well, we're going to find out. We're going to find out. Look, I reject the DSA. I reject socialism." Capitalism, in my view as a capitalist, delivers the highest level of economic mobility. He emphasized that he does not share her approach to governance.

Jolly called Nixon a fighter but noted they have very different solutions for Florida. He said, "We'll see how Florida's voters sort that out in November." This reaction highlights a clear split within the state's Democratic party. Jolly wants voters to know he is a capitalist even if he runs on the same ticket. The two will appear together on the statewide ballot in the general election.

Sen. Ashley Moody highlighted Nixon's behavior during a recent legislative session where she shouted into a pink megaphone. Moody posted a photo of the moment to show the lack of seriousness in the chamber. The National Republican Senatorial Committee shared a video where Nixon discusses taking her children to drag shows. She stated, "There's no sexualization at a drag show... I've taken my children to drag shows... it's wholesome entertainment."

The Republican National Committee also shared a clip from Nixon's victory speech about government-run healthcare. She faces a tough challenge against Moody in the November general election. Voters will decide if her radical platform works for the state.

Vindman acknowledged that Nixon "ran a strong campaign" in his concession statement. He promised to support her against Moody despite their ideological differences. The race is now set for a showdown between a socialist and a conservative incumbent. Florida voters will have the final say on who represents them in Washington.
