Heather Marie Godbout, a literacy coach at Crete-Monee High School in Chicago, has posted several controversial videos on TikTok in which she insults concerned parents and conservatives, and admits to indoctrinating students. In these videos, Godbout refers to conservatives as "people who could know better if they could get out of their own little bubbles" and accuses them of attempting to "bring down our democracy and create a Christian nationalist theocracy."
In one video, she proudly declares that it is "time to own up to" indoctrinating students.
"All you right-wing conspiracy theory nut jobs who seem to think the teachers are out here just indoctrinating children into some sort of woke agenda that you can’t actually define, I’m just going to come clean," Godbout states. Then, unsurprisingly she admits what we already know, "I am, in fact, indoctrinating your children."
She then spends about a minute explaining what she means by indoctrination.
"I'm indoctrinating children into understanding their own agency and learning how to think critically about the issues that impact their lives," she says after claiming to foster a love of "reading and books."
In her video, Godbout claims to teach students to think critically and to do their own research rather than blindly accepting information from the internet. She also asserts that her work aims to help students become "loving, kind, compassionate human beings" and to make the world "a better place," implying that she presents herself as a model of such behavior to her students.
In response to criticism, Godbout made a follow-up video in which she stated that she will never be respectful to people who disagree with her politically and accused one critic of "tone-policing." She also claimed that her school administrators support her right to free speech on social media.
Once again, this is why we shouldn't be sending our children to be educated by these folks. You may not think that they're in your kids' school, but I would bet money that they are.
