Trump Reacts to AG Garland’s Restoring of Andrew McCabe’s Benefits

President Trump took to Twitter to criticize the decision by the Department of Justice under Merrick Garland to restore the pension and benefits of former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe. Trump called the move "disgraceful," noting that McCabe was fired by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions just before his scheduled 2018 retirement.

"Isn’t it terrible that all of Andrew McCabe’s benefits, pensions, salary, etc., were just fully reinstated by the Justice Department? This is yet another mockery to our Country," Trump said in a statement Friday. "Among other things, McCabe’s wife received hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Hillary Clinton and the Democrats while Crooked Hillary was under investigation, which was quickly dropped, of course."

In case you're not familiar with the matter, former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe was fired because he lied to the FBI about leaking information to a news outlet. According to the FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility, lying is considered a serious offense and can result in termination.

McCabe claimed that his dismissal in March 2018 was politically motivated because he would not be loyal to Donald Trump while he was investigating Hillary Clinton's private email server and overseeing the FBI's investigation into Russian collusion. The Washington Post reported that McCabe and the Department of Justice settled McCabe's lawsuit, resulting in the restoration of his pension and benefits.

"Politics should never play a role in the fair administration of justice and civil service personnel decisions," McCabe said in a statement through the Arnold & Porter law firm, which posted the settlement. I hope that this result encourages the men and women of the FBI to continue to protect the American people by standing up for the truth and doing their jobs without fear of political retaliation."

In my opinion, Andrew McCabe should be charged and tried for the crime of lying to FBI investigators. His claim of being a victim of wrongdoing is hypocritical, given his participation in an attempted government coup against a duly elected president. There certainly seems to be a discrepancy in the justice system, where McCabe was not charged for a felony, but other citizens investigated by McCabe have been jailed for similar offenses.

"What a bad chapter this has been for the once storied FBI — I hate to see it happening, so many great people work there," Trump’s said in his statement. "Next thing you know the two lovers, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, will be getting awards for what they did, and Hunter Biden will be given a clean bill of health on everything done by him, with everyone to receive as payment a beautiful Hunter Biden inspired painting selling at your local art gallery for $500,000."

“While I have never painted before, Hunter has inspired me to immediately begin painting because I’ve always felt I have a talent at that and could surely get at least $2 million dollars per canvas — and probably a lot more. I will begin immediately. Our country is crooked as hell!”

The decision to restore Andrew McCabe's pension was a personal act of defiance against the Trump administration by the Biden administration. The Democrats ran a coup operation against Trump, starting before he was even inaugurated. The Obama administration's Department of Justice and intelligence community are said to have colluded to take down Trump by abusing their authority and using their tools for personal gain rather than national security. McCabe, as one of the leaders of the alleged Russian collusion hoax, should not have had his pension restored.
