Our country needs to remember our great history and for that to happen statues need to be displayed for future generations.
So many historical monuments have been torn down and called racist or disgusting. It is a sad world we live in that people cannot look at things for what they are instead of pulling strings for things they don’t even know what they are talking about. I bet you 99% of these people wanting these monuments torn down didn’t pay attention in history class growing up or they are just plain ignorant. Well, sorry folks, your feelings are not getting at least these two monuments destroyed.
So this is a victory for the Robert E. Lee and “Stonewall” Jackson monuments. They are staying! Hopefully, we can save many other historical sites and statues for future generations to come. History needs to be remembered so it doesn’t repeat what our ancestors fought so hard for.
From the New York Post:
Statues in Charlottesville of Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson are war monuments protected by state law, a Virginia judge has ruled.
The decision comes nearly two years after three people were killed at the “Unite the Right” white nationalist rally after the city of Charlottesville voted to remove the statue of Lee.
Circuit Court Judge Richard E. Moore said the way the statues made people feel did not change the fact they paid homage to the Civil War heroes.
In 2017 Charlottesville City Council voted to have the statue of Robert E. Lee removed but that has recently been decided against. In a lengthy nine-page decision Moore exclaims it is absolutely illegal to remove the statues without permission from the state. So they will stay standing. Moore says, “While some people obviously see Lee and Jackson as symbols of white supremacy, others see them as brilliant military tacticians or complex leaders in a difficult time.”
