When Democrats win, despite narrow and suspicious final margins, they scream that Republicans must move on and accept the results. In New Jersey, their true colors are once again bleeding through.
Democrats are sore losers. This time they’re extra sore, because their candidate was supposed to be a shoo-in. It’s rare when a tenured member of the legislature is unseated, especially when he was the president of such a legislative body.
Steve Sweeney had over a decade in the New Jersey Senate and he was the incumbent president. However, he lost. To make matters even worse, a retired 25-year truck driver beat Sweeney. This interesting election tidbit adds insult to injury.
High-powered liberal machines, with all their left-wing financial donors, do not lose to truck drivers. Well, it seems this time they did. So, in typical liberal form, they’re digging for votes. Hopefully, honest poll workers won’t find any “Sweeney votes” cleverly stashed under tables.
No one will be surprised when there is some “poll worker error” used to delay the final call for Edward Durr. Durr is the former truck driver, turned politician, who swept his way to victory with a final campaign cost of less than $10,000.
That’s pretty a remarkable achievement by itself. To have unseated the sitting New Jersey Senate President speaks volumes about his colossal triumph. The Durr vs. Sweeney upset wasn’t the only close race in the heavily liberal of New Jersey.
The battle for New Jersey Governor was equally surprising. Incumbent Phil Murphy apparently squeaked out a victory over Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli. However, most experts think Murphy’s razor-thin margin of victory will warrant a statewide recount.
“The results from Tuesday’s election continue to come in, for instance there were 12,000 ballots recently found in one county,” Sweeney said in an email to Politico. “While I am currently trailing in the race, we want to make sure every vote is counted. Our voters deserve that, and we will wait for the final results.”
Nevertheless, the numbers Sweeney is staring at will require a truly more creative approach. Until then, he’s just another losing Democrat who hopes to “pull a rabbit out of a hat”, so to speak. Let’s just hope it’s not more suspicious suitcases full of ballots out from underneath a table.
