Speaker Of The House Called Cemetery Before Ceremony Says Report

Hello everyone, let's take a moment to unpack a story that underscores just how deep political divides can go—and how they can affect even the most sacred moments of remembrance. It seems that Trump derangement syndrome (TDS), a term often used to describe an obsessive opposition to former President Donald Trump, knows no limits. From the seemingly trivial, like former First Lady Melania Trump not gracing the cover of Vogue, to the gravely serious, like assassination attempts, TDS has reared its head in many forms. But today, we’re talking about something that falls closer to the serious end of the spectrum: the treatment of Gold Star families at Arlington National Cemetery, and how politics have marred what should have been a solemn occasion.

Here’s the situation: On the third anniversary of the tragic Afghanistan withdrawal, specifically the bombing at Abbey Gate that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members, a ceremony was planned to honor these fallen heroes. Former President Donald Trump was invited by the families to attend and lay a wreath in their honor. Sounds simple enough, right? But nothing is ever simple when it comes to Trump and the current political climate.

According to a Daily Caller exclusive, the families of these fallen soldiers faced obstacles from Arlington National Cemetery, which initially dictated a specific time for the ceremony that wasn’t convenient for all the family members. On top of that, they were told that Trump would not be allowed to join them at their loved ones' gravesites. Imagine the frustration and pain this caused—these families weren’t just mourning their loved ones, they were also fighting to have the ceremony they wanted.

Darin Hoover and Kelly Barnett, parents of Staff Sergeant Taylor Hoover, were particularly vocal about the issue. They reached out to Rep. Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, who then contacted Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. Johnson made a crucial phone call, and just like that, the situation changed. Trump was allowed to attend, and the ceremony proceeded as planned. Reps. Brian Mast and Darrell Issa also stepped in to ensure everything went smoothly.

But that wasn’t the only hurdle. Arlington National Cemetery also claimed that the families didn’t want any media coverage at the gravesites, which was simply not true. The families had agreed to allow media designated by Trump’s team, yet Arlington seemed intent on interfering. It’s hard not to see this as part of a broader pattern of disrespect from the current administration towards these families, who have already endured so much.

Darin Hoover put it bluntly: “We extended the invitation to President Trump... President Trump has stood by us from day one. He has been compassionate, loving, and understanding. He’s taken on some of our outrage because, quite frankly, we haven’t heard anything from the current administration in three years.”

It’s a stark contrast, isn’t it? While these families gathered to honor their loved ones, President Joe Biden was enjoying a vacation on the beach in Delaware, and Vice President Kamala Harris was busy campaigning. This lack of presence speaks volumes, especially given Biden’s previous comments labeling the botched withdrawal an "extraordinary success." If it was such a success, why didn’t they show up to honor the fallen?

To make matters worse, the media—specifically The New York Times's Maggie Haberman—allegedly contacted families of those buried near the ceremony, fishing for negative comments about Trump. This desperate attempt to inject politics into a moment of mourning only adds insult to injury.

As Rep. Darrell Issa pointed out, this administration’s actions have made the Gold Star families collateral damage in its ongoing battle against Trump. These families deserve respect, not political games. Their sincerest hope is that if Trump is re-elected, there will be a thorough investigation into the Afghanistan withdrawal, and these families will finally receive the honor and respect they’re owed.
