The hit Christian-based movie “Sound of Freedom” is dominating the box office in 18 Latin American countries after it premiered on August 31st. The gripping film, led by actor Jim Caviezel and directed by Alejandro Monteverde, tackles the horrors of human trafficking and is now the number one movie across Latin America, according to a press release from Angel Studios – the same studio responsible for the popular television series “The Chosen”.
The movie opened in Mexico City to Caracas and more, reaching two million viewers during the opening weekend. This is just as remarkable as the fact that the film earned two million advanced tickets sold in Latin America, representing the two million children trafficked each year.
“The domestic box office performance on ‘SOUND OF FREEDOM’ has been an incredible success story, but some industry experts have argued our film would not be able to translate this success overseas,” said Jared Geesey, Chief Distribution Officer at Angel Studios in an effort to disprove the skeptics. “We’re grateful to our fans for proving them wrong, and making us the number one movie in Latin America."
The movie has seen packed theaters with standing ovations, widespread enthusiasm, and strong word-of-mouth from Buenos Aires to Mexico City to Bogota to Caracas, Lima, and beyond.

After the successful August 31 opening in Latin America, the movie was released in New Zealand, where it also became the number-one film on its opening weekend. The film is now in the number two position in Australia, opening in both countries on August 24th.
Since its initial release on July 4th, the movie is still showing in 2,000 theaters and has earned $181,967,046 worldwide as of September 3rd. As a result, it now ranks in the Top 10 Box Office Cumulative for the year: a remarkable accomplishment for a Christian-based film.
“Sound of Freedom” is a break-out success that has captured the hearts of many. Its heavy topic of human trafficking has invigorated people into action and has solidified “Sound of Freedom” as a global movement for change.`
