I have always cringed every time I hear of very young children going to story hour read by Men in Drag. Why do parents want their little children around such sexually explicit behavior? It isn't age-appropriate one bit.
Some parents say it is to show that they are open and want to get with the times. But you are supposed to protect your young child's mind from inappropriate behavior.
Well, many others including some Drag Queens agree and think it is absolutely inappropriate.
Drag Queen Kitty Demure explains:
“What in hell has a drag queen ever done to make you have so much respect for them and admire them so much? Other than put on makeup and jump on the floor and writhe around and do sexual things on stage?” Demure asked. “I have absolutely no idea why you would want [that] to influence your child.”
“You want a stripper or porn star to influence your child? It makes no sense at all.” Demure continued, “A drag queen performs in a club for adults. There is a lot of filth that goes on, a lot of sexual stuff that goes on. Back stage, there’s a lot of nudity, sex, and drugs.”
“I don’t think this is an avenue you’d want your child to explore. They can explore dressing up at home,” Demure added, “To get them actually involved in drag extremely, extremely irresponsible on your part.”
He explains he understands parents want to show they are not a homophobe but there are plenty of healthy ways to express that yo your children.
“but you can raise your child to be just a normal, regular, everyday child without including them in gay, sexual things.”

I'm glad someone came out and especially someone in Drag that can say it straight from the horse's mouth so to speak.
