One Officer Killed and Another Injured in Washington Shooting


One officer dead and another injured on Monday night after officers with the Bothell Police Department attempted to pull over a car. The driver allegedly refused to stop and tried to flee.

The driver led police on a short chase before he stopped when he hit a person on a scooter the suspect got out of his car and opened fire on the two officers before running off.

Assisting police officers arrived at the scene to find both officers injured. One was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Everett police spokesperson Aaron Snell declined to say if the officer who died was also taken to the hospital or died at the scene.

The Bothell Police tweeted around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday and said that the suspect has been taken into police custody after he was found hiding on a rooftop for several hours.

A man who allegedly shot and killed a Washington police officer and injured another during a traffic stop was arrested Monday night, according to police.

Officers with the Bothell Police Department outside of the Seattle-metro area tried to pull over a car around 9:40 p.m. Monday, but the driver allegedly refused to yield, police told KOMO News. After fleeing police, the driver supposedly struck a person on a scooter with the car and then allegedly opened fire on officers, according to police, killing one, KOMO News reported.

The surviving officer was released from the hospital Tuesday after being rushed into treatment the night prior, a hospital spokesman told the local outlet. An hours-long manhunt for the suspect allegedly responsible for the shooting took place after responding officers discovered their deceased fellow officer, police told KOMO.

The suspect — who has yet to be identified — was reportedly located on a rooftop hours after he opened fire on the two Bothell officers, the police department said in a tweet.
