Mitch McConnell Threatened Democrats Over Abolishing Filibuster

Every once in a while the Democrats start threatening about eliminating the filibuster after they have demonized it as a weapon of the Republicans.

The truth of the matter is that the filibuster is equally used by both Democrats and Republicans and it's used in a way that helps protect the majority leadership in the Senate from being able to have too much power and pushing through whatever agenda they feel is good on any particular day.

Without the filibuster and with a majority of one party in the Senate there may as well not even be any Republicans in the Senate because the Democrats can just take full control and do whatever it is they want. It's really as simple as that.

And here we are once again with the Democrats led by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer trying to eliminate it again.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that doing so would severely bog down the Senate and create what he calls a nuclear winter in which very little would actually get done in the Senate.

According to Daily Wire,

“The Senate Democratic leader is trying to bully his own members into breaking their word, breaking the Senate, and silencing the voices of millions of citizens, so that one political party can take over our nation’s elections from the top down,” McConnell said of Schumer’s efforts to break the Senate filibuster.

McConnell continued, invoking the memory of the January 6th Capitol riot and describing how the Senate reconvened and went about its business after the riot was over.

He went on to excoriate Schumer and President Joe Biden for using “fake hysteria” and “Jim Crow” rhetoric to assail voting reforms like the ones passed in Georgia, which are less restrictive than election laws in states like New York and Delaware.

McConnell also pointed out that abolishing the legislative filibuster would shake the foundations of the Senate. He quoted late West Virginia Democratic Senator Robert Byrd, who said that “if the filibuster is eliminated or budget reconciliation becomes the norm, a new and dangerous precedent will be set to pass sweeping partisan legislation every time there is a change in political control. Our nation may never see stable governing again.”

The thing is and it's as Ted Cruz said just the other day during a press conference, whenever there is a republican majority in the Senate the Democrats are more than happy to use the filibuster and to denounce Republicans getting rid of the filibuster. So they are only in favor of the filibuster when they are the minority and they are against it when they are the majority.
