As far as Democrats go, it seems like Senator Joe Manchin isn't the worst of the bunch.
He was opposed to the whole debt thing going on and stood his ground even when Mitch McConnell and 10 other Republicans caved.
During Sen. Chuck Schumer's little speech where he attacked the Republicans for playing games, you could see the disgust on Joe Manchin's face since he was sitting right behind him. He even put his head in his hands and got up and walked away. It was clear that he knew Schumer was lying. But we all know that this is always the case anyway because that's all Schumer does.
But what is best about all of this is that it's being reported that Manchin told Schumer that his speech was "f***ing stupid"!
According to Punchbowl News,
There was some last-minute drama, as well. Schumer went to the floor and harshly criticized Republicans for provoking the crisis. Schumer won this round of his never-ending battle with McConnell, and he made sure everyone knew it. But Republicans — and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) — didn’t like the tone of Schumer’s remarks. Senate Minority Whip John Thune complained personally to Schumer on the floor, while Sens. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) and Mitt Romney (R-Utah) complained to reporters.
Manchin told Schumer the speech was “f***ing stupid,” according to four sources. Then Manchin complained to reporters too. The incident doesn’t really signify anything, except to show how tense everyone is in the Senate these days. And it’s only going to get worse.
Schumer claimed that this would have been the “first ever Republican manufactured default on the national debt,” even though Senate Republicans have warned Schumer for months that Democrats would need to use the reconciliation process to increase the debt ceiling.
There was no crisis. Democrats could have done exactly as McConnell said and raised the debt ceiling on their own. They refused. Why? Because they have an agenda and feel that they don't have an obligation to just do what is right.
