Now, we know that celebrities aren't the smartest people in the world for the most part. That's why most of them turn out to be liberals...they just don't know how to think properly. But I've never heard such ridiculousness as I heard from Chelsea Handler's mouth this week.
Handler revealed a startling fact to late-night host Jimmy Fallon recently: she didn't know the sun and moon were different celestial entities until she was 40 years old. The humorous admission came ahead of Handler's hosting duties at the Critics Choice Awards show last Sunday.
In her recounting of the story, Handler explained that she only realized her misapprehension while riding elephants in Africa with her older sister Simone. As they looked up at the sky, Simone had remarked how rare it is to see both the sun and moon together, to which Handler had replied “Wait, but they’re always together.” She then proceeded to explain that for years, she thought when the sun went down it would just pop back up as the moon as if it were changing costumes.
Her sister's shock at this statement prompted Handler to awkwardly try and gloss over what she said before being asked to explain further.
“She looked at me … and I just tried to gloss over it. I was like, ‘Never mind what I said. I know.’ And she said, ‘No, I need you to tell me what you think is happening between the sun and the moon.’ And I was like, ‘Honestly, I just assumed when the sun went down, it popped back up as the moon.’ I’m like, ‘Is that not what’s happening?’ The man riding the elephant spoke no English and went, ‘Pfft!'” Handler said.
A man riding an elephant nearby couldn't contain his amusement at this revelation and even laughed out loud in response.
Handler then concluded that, despite believing the sun and moon were one and the same for so many years, it was her sister who helped her to see the light...literally.
