Well, here we are again. The Democrats are impeaching President Trump when he's no longer in office.
This has got to be the most absurd thing that the Democrats have ever tried to pull.
Once again, they know that this trial will amount to absolutely nothing.
A group of bipartisan Senators has spoken with some of the other Senators about censuring President Trump.
This move comes after it became clear the attempt for a second impeachment effort would not move forward.
Before the vote on impeachment, Senator Paul Rand made a speech in which he stated: "Impeaching and charging a private citizen is patently unconstitutional." He went on to demand that the Senate abandon all efforts to impeach Donald Trump.
The next move Democrats are attempting, a censure, would prevent President Trump from exercising his political power in the future.
A censure would not charge him, but it would put a stain on President Trump's career and make it extremely difficult to run for a political station again. Democrats know that a trial would not hold up in court, so they are resorting to petty and unlawful tactics to ruin President Trump.
In what appears to be an attempt to salvage the effort, Axios reports that Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) are working with Senate moderates on a proposal to censure the former president, officially chiding him for allegedly spurring a rally crowd to riot and attack the U.S. Capitol, rather than convict him.
“Axios first reported on Tuesday that Kaine and Collins were pitching their colleagues on the idea of a censure resolution. Spokespeople for Collins didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about the conversations,” The Hill added. “Collins indicated on Tuesday after 45 GOP senators supported an effort to deem Trump’s trial unconstitutional that she expected the Senate would not be able to convict him. Collins was one of five GOP senators who voted to set aside the effort by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) to declare the trial unconstitutional.”
“I think it’s pretty obvious from the vote today that it is extraordinarily unlikely that the President will be convicted. Just do the math,” Collins reportedly told the outlet.
I think the Democrats are actually starting to get worried that this impeachment is actually unconstitutional, and honestly, it seems quite clear that it is. It is required that the Chief Justice presides over the impeachment, but Justice Roberts isn't doing so. Why? Because he doesn't have to based on the Constitution. Joe Biden is president right now, not Trump.
So since they're desperate, they're just looking to do anything they can to tarnish his name and legacy.
