Let’s dive into a heated exchange that took place on Sunday between Senator Tom Cotton and ABC News host Jonathan Karl. The conversation, which aired on "This Week," centered around some of the policy positions of Vice President Kamala Harris, and let me tell you, it got pretty intense!
Senator Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, wasn’t holding back as he pointed out the stark differences between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Harris.
He listed several policies that Harris had previously supported, including “decriminalizing illegal immigration, giving taxpayer-funded health insurance to illegal aliens, and eliminating private health insurance for 170 million Americans.” Cotton also mentioned Harris’s stance on banning gas cars and confiscating firearms. Quite the list, right?

What are talking about?” Then: “That is not her position now....clearly making an effort to move to the middle.” pic.twitter.com/dLk3LEnuCp

But here’s where things got really interesting. Jonathan Karl, the host, quickly interrupted Cotton, asking for clarification on the health insurance claim. He seemed skeptical, challenging Cotton with, “What do you mean taking away health insurance? What are you talking about?”
Cotton didn’t miss a beat. He reminded Karl that during her presidential campaign, Harris had indeed supported eliminating private health insurance, which would affect millions of Americans. Cotton was confident in his statement, but Karl wasn’t buying it. He claimed that Harris no longer held that position, leading to a back-and-forth that kept viewers on the edge of their seats.
Karl insisted that Harris had moved away from her previous positions, saying, “She’s clearly making an effort to move to the middle.” However, Cotton wasn’t convinced. He pointed out that even Senator Bernie Sanders had expressed disappointment over Harris allegedly trying to distance herself from her past policies.
Cotton wrapped up his argument by suggesting that the American public has every reason to view Harris as a “dangerous San Francisco liberal,” based on her past campaign promises and the actions of the Biden-Harris administration over the last four years. He criticized the Democrats for acting as if they weren’t already in power, implying that Harris’s previous positions still hold weight despite claims of a shift.
Throughout the exchange, Karl continued to push back, insisting that Harris had “clearly changed” her stance. But Cotton was steadfast, refusing to accept Karl’s assertions without concrete evidence.
