Former Secretary of State John Kerry is under scrutiny after whistleblowers revealed that he used a pseudonymous government email address during his tenure as the nation's top diplomat under the Obama administration.
Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) have raised concerns and are demanding answers from Secretary of State Antony Blinken regarding Kerry's compliance with federal records laws.
Fox News Digital obtained a letter from Grassley and Johnson to Blinken, questioning whether Kerry adhered to federal records laws during his time in office. According to the whistleblowers, Kerry used the email address "[email protected]" for official communications.
The senators are seeking confirmation of this information and inquiring whether all responses to relevant Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests have included this email address.
The senators' letter highlights their ongoing concerns about the State Department's compliance with federal records laws, an issue that has been on their radar since the 2015 investigations into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a non-government server for official business.
They have also been concerned about President Biden’s use of non-government emails and pseudonymous email addresses for official business during his tenure as vice president.
Grassley and Johnson criticized the Biden administration for failing to address these compliance issues, noting, "To-date, the Biden administration has failed to address Joe Biden’s compliance with federal records laws."
The letter comes just weeks after whistleblowers informed the senators that Kerry and his State Department allegedly interfered with FBI efforts to arrest individuals illegally in the United States who were purportedly supporting Iranian financial efforts to develop weapons of mass destruction. The senators reiterated their concerns about Kerry’s "extensive, consistent, and successful interference and obstruction of the FBI’s efforts to arrest Iranian terrorists" in pursuit of the Iran Nuclear Deal.
Grassley also questioned Kerry’s potential mishandling of classified information in communications with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, after leaving office.
In their letter to Blinken, Grassley and Johnson demanded all records from, to, or cc’ing the [email protected] email address, as well as details on whether Kerry complied with federal records laws. They requested information on the State Department’s process for storing and archiving Kerry's government email records, whether the email address was used exclusively for official business, and if it was used to communicate with foreign government officials about the Iran Nuclear Deal.
The senators have given Blinken until July 1 to respond. The State Department has not yet responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
